Sydney: Day Seventy-Three - Afternoon (31 December)

There is a children's fireworks display at nine o'clock but I was allowed to stay up for the big one at midnight. It's one of the most fantastic things I've ever seen.

Sydney: Day Seventy-Three - Morning (31 December)

Here I am with Barnaby at the Sydney Aquarium. It's amazing being under the water with the fish without needing breathing equipment.

Melbourne: Day Sixty-Nine (27 December)

Although it feels very funny to be celebrating Christmas in the summer, Barnaby and I did enter into the spirit by wearing our Christmas hats :-).

Melbourne: Day Sixty-Seven (26 November)

Here we are in the beautiful conservatory at Fitzroy Gardens and beside the Faerie Tree.

Phillip Island: Day Sixty-Seven (25 December)

Here's Barnaby and me on the beach at Cowes, which is the main town on Phillip Island. We stopped here briefly on our way to the Penquin Parade.

Melbourne: Day Sixty-Six - Afternoon (24 December)

The sun came out for Christmas Eve afternoon so we explored Carlton Park before catching the train from Flinders Station.

Melbourne: Day Sixty-Six - Morning (24 November)

Here I am on the Neighbours' tour too, next to the special mini bus.

As you can see the weather was still wet - the sun doesn't always shine in Australia :-(.

Great Ocean Road Tour: Day Sixty-Three (21 December)

As well as koalas we also saw two kookaburras and a kangaroo – all the K’s (although cookaburra can also be spelt with a C).

Great Ocean Road Tour: Day Sixty-One (19 December)

Here I am in the Narricoorte National Park. I'm glad Barnaby is only posing by a model of one of the animal fossils found here because I wouldn't like to meet a real one.

Barossa Valley: Day Fifty-Nine (17 December)

On the way to the Barossa Valley we took a very pretty drive through the Adelaide Hills and saw the Big Rocking Horse but we opted not to climb it.

Sydney: Day Fifty-Six (14 December)

The tour of The Rocks was very interesting but I’m glad I didn’t live in Sydney in those days: it was mainly full of convicts who had been sent to Australia instead of going to prison in England.

Sydney: Day Fifty-Five (13 December)

We had been upgraded to a room with a harbour view, which was fantastic because Sydney Harbour is one of the most beautiful in the world :-).

Here's Barnaby and me admiring the view at night time with all the wonderful Christmas lights.

Emerald Beach: Day Fifty-Three (11 December)

Here is a Kookaburra which we saw when driving near Emerald Beach. It is probably the best known bird in Australia and has a very distinctive call.

Brisbane: Day Fifty (8 December)

Here I am exploring Brisbane on our last day.

We loved this walk covered with flowers and I thought the statues on Koala House were really cute.

Australia Zoo: Day Forty-Nine (7 December)

In Kangaroo Heaven we also saw echidnas, which are sort of the Australian equivalent of a hedgehog.

Byron Bay: Day Forty-Seven (5 December)

Here we are having lunch in the Hogs Breath cafe in Byron Bay. Believe it or not there is a whole chain of restaurants across Australia with this unusual name. The food they serve is very good too.

Brisbane: Day Forty-Six (4 December)

You wouldn't be able to sit out like this in England on 4 December! The creature on this unusual chair is a platypus, another animal unique to Australia.

Brisbane: Day Forty-Five (3 December)

This is Barnaby and me in Brisbane's Chinatown. I wouldn't have wanted to be this close if it was a real lion (not that it looked very like the ones we saw in South Africa).

South Molle Island: Day Forty-Three (1 December)

Here I am on the balcony of our chalet at the South Molle Island resort.

There were coconuts growing in the trees overhead but fortunately none of them fell on my head.

Whitsundays: Day Forty-One (29 November)

Here we are on the ferry to Daydream Island. We needed our sun hats because it was such a hot day.

Whitsundays Day Thirty-Nine (27 November)

Here are the rainbow lorikeets being fed on South Molle Island. They are twice the size of me so I watched them from a distance.

Townsville: Day Thirty-Seven (25 November)

This is a statue of a Dugong on the Strand at Townsville. They used to be called Sea Cows (because they eat Sea Grass) and sometimes Sea Elephants. (I expect you can see why:-)).

Townsville: Day Thirty-Six (24 November)

This is part of the coral exhibition in Reef HQ. Can you see any one you recognise?

Yes, Nemo or probably his cousin as Townsville is a long way from Sydney.

Do you remember where clown fish live?

That's right - in a sea anemone. Although it looks like a plant coral is actually a living creature too.

I really enjoyed the visit to Townsville Aquarium and finding out more about the Great Barrier Reef.

Cairns: Day Thirty-One (19 November)

I really enjoyed the day on the Reef too, although I'm rather glad we didn't go in the water. They have some very big scary fish in Australia but I enjoyed seeing them in the observatory.

Cairns: Day Twenty-Seven (15 November)

I thought the wombats were really cute too. They are marsupials like koalas, which means they carry their babies in a pouch, a bit like me riding in a backpack.

I sat close to Barnaby on the skyrail because we were very high up but the views were wonderful.

Kakadu: Day Twenty-Two (10 November)

Kakadu was amazing, even if it was scary sometimes. Everything in Australia is so much bigger than me - even the musical instruments!

Sunday 9 November 2008

Kakadu: Day Twenty-One (9 November)

We had a traditional Aussie barbq for lunch today. There were wallabies all around the site.

Kakadu: Day Twenty (8 November)

We were the only British people on the tour but we made some good friends from other countries. There were three couples from Denmark, one Belgium couple (who did manage to stay in lodges rather than tents), three Dutch friends and six French people who had their own translator.

Kakadu: Day Nineteen (7 November)

The flowers in Kakadu National Park are very pretty and I liked the birds but I didn't like the crocodiles either.

Wednesday 5 November 2008

Broome: Day Seventeen (5 November)

I went on the tour of Broome too. This is me on the camel on Cable Beach.

Morris

Monday 3 November 2008

Broome: Day Fifteen (3 November)

This is Barnaby and me on the plane to Broome. Because the plane was little, it flew quite low down and we could see land most of the way. The views were amazing.

Perth: Day Ten (29 October)

I got to see lots of the city too, perched in my favourite place: the top of my Mummy’s back pack.

Monday 27 October 2008

Perth: Day Eight (27 October)

It was bright and sunny in Western Australia but windy. I still needed my jumper.

Morris

Friday 24 October 2008

South Africa: Day Five (24 October)

South Africa is a warm country but I was glad of my woolly jumper because the morning was very cold.

Barnaby and I were happy to stay inside the jeep. We were a bit nervous the wild animals might mistake us for food. He had to pose for some photos though.

I eat most things but I decided not to try the Kudu sausage and Ostrich at dinner!

South Africa: Day Four (23 October)

When we were rushing to see the leopard our guide, Dirk, was driving rather fast but then he suddenly saw a police car and stamped on the brakes. I went flying off the seat! :-(

Tuesday 21 October 2008

South Africa: Day Two (21 October)

I saw my first Jacaranda tree. They don’t grow in England but they are very pretty with pale mauve flowers.

And Me

Hello. I’m Morris.

I was very excited to go on the Big Adventure as I had never travelled before or been on an aeroplane. Barnaby held my paw when we took off because I was a bit scared.
